Search Instructions for using the
Index to American Periodicals 1700 to 1900

Definition of Search Fields
  Topic   Any person, place or thing on which you would like information.

  Sub-Topic   Any thing you would like to know about that Topic.
Example:   Topic: Congress
Sub-Topic: Taxes
  Year   Range can be set for a year or period of years for which you would like Information on a particular Topic.
Example:   Topic: Congress
Year:From 1820 to: 1825

Search Options
 Search results contain all words entered   "And" is implied, meaning the search result must contain all words entered in the topic field. A search of "Washington, George" or "George Washington" will yield the Topics:
    Washington, George
Washington, George General
  Search results contain any words entered   "Or" is implied, meaning the search result would contain any words entered in the topic field. A search of "oven stove" would yield all Topics with either of those words in them.
    Air Stove
Cooking Stove
Devils Oven
Egg Oven
Oven
Stove
  Search for instances of phrase Search for exact topic   Search for a word or words exactly as entered, not any Topics containing the words being searched. A search for "Ohio" would only yield entries for the state of "Ohio" and would not yield "Cleveland, Ohio", "Cincinnati, Ohio", "Ohio Agricultural College", "Ohio and Erie Canal", etc.
